Urea Pump Injector Introduction

Urea pump injectors, also commonly referred to as urea metering injectors or SCR injection injectors, are core precision components in the exhaust aftertreatment systems of diesel vehicles. Typically mounted at the mid-section of the exhaust pipe and upstream of the SCR catalytic converter, they work in tandem with urea pumps, urea tanks and DCU controllers to form a complete urea injection system. Their core function is to fully atomize automotive urea solution (commonly known as AdBlue) and inject it precisely into the high-temperature exhaust gas discharged by the engine.

Why Inject Urea Solution Into Vehicle Exhaust?

The main purpose is environmental protection and reducing exhaust pollutant emissions.

Diesel engines produce a large amount of nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) during operation. These pollutants pollute the air and harm human health.

According to instructions from the Engine Control Unit (ECU), the urea pump injector injects high-pressure urea solution into the exhaust pipe with fine atomization at accurate timing. When the atomized urea solution contacts high-temperature exhaust gas (above 200°C), it quickly undergoes thermal decomposition and hydrolysis to produce ammonia (NH₃).

Under the effect of the SCR catalyst, ammonia reacts with nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) in the exhaust gas, converting harmful pollutants into harmless nitrogen (N₂) and water vapor (H₂O). This effectively reduces diesel vehicle emissions and meets Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission standards.

Importance of Urea Pump Injector

The working condition of the urea pump injector directly affects the NOₓ conversion efficiency of the SCR system.

If the injector is clogged, leaking or has poor atomization performance, it will cause excessive exhaust emissions, vehicle torque limitation, and even damage the expensive SCR catalytic converter.

Therefore, using qualified standard urea solution and performing regular inspection, maintenance and replacement of the urea pump injector is essential to keep the SCR exhaust treatment system stable and durable.

Conclusion

  • The urea pump injector is a core precision component of the diesel vehicle SCR exhaust aftertreatment system.
  • Its main function is to accurately atomize and inject automotive urea solution for exhaust purification.
